Synge Street

Restoration of a damp and dilapidated Victorian terraced house, the removal of later outbuilding and the addition of a quiet two storey extension. This a densely built part of south Dublin where it is essential the make the most of available space while respecting the local pattern and not impacting neighbours.

The strategy was to open up the previously dark basement and make it a bright and contemporary kitchen living area, well connected to the garden. The extension was conceived as a quiet compact flat roofed form which uses granite edging like the main house but with infill of white stained larch.
